It’s interesting to look at the NHL’s scoring leaders. The Penguins have four players in the top 30 slots (Mario Lemieux with 36, Alexei Kovalev with 24, Alexei Morozov with 22, and Dick Tarnstrom with 19). All four players also have negative plus/minus ratings. All four combine for a 12, led by Kovalev’s 9. So Pittsburgh loses goals as quickly (and often quicker) than they can put them back in. That’s not how teams get ahead. They’d be better off scoring less and playing their defense much, mich tighter.
But if those four guys were golfing, they’d have amazing scores.
