The Islanders desperately need a change, so they brought up super-goalie Rick DiPietro. I can understand that. He’s 21. He’s the future of the franchise. He’s been acting like a star since he’s 19. I don’t get the timing, though. Why bring him up after Chris Osgood plays one of his better games of the season against his old team, the Red Wings? Why not bring DiPietro up sooner, when Osgood and goalie Garth Snow were struggling?
Who am I to question, though? The Isles finally won a game. Against the surging Wild, no less.
DiPietro is at best a temporary fix to a serious problem — the Islanders have no focus on the ice. They can’t score and they can’t defend. They’ve even resorted to using a trap.
Look for GM Mike Milbury to start trading like crazy after the roster freeze is over. And don’t be shocked if he’s shopping DiPietro. Milbury loves to do what’s least expected. And rumors always have DiPietro on the block.
