The Thrashers fired coach Curt Fraser yesterday.
No big shock there. You don’t get to run the worst team in the NHL without some people noticing.
Fraser had nothing to work with in Atlanta. Whoever comes in next won’t have much either. I’d feel bad for Fraser, but he’s seen this coming since the day he was hired. Reporters asked him if he was sure he wanted the job: “Yeah, he told me that it’s usually the second coach who does well, after he comes in and enjoys the fruits of what the first one did.” (I have no idea who the “he” is Fraser is referring to here — maybe GM Don Waddell).
Second coach sounds a little optimistic. Maybe the fourth will get to enjoy some fruits.
