I’m probably in the minority here, but I’m really interested in how TV sports broadcasts are put together. The Detroit Free Press had a cool article on how Red Wing telecasts come together. I was shocked to learn they use nine cameras on the Wing games. Here in New York, it seems like the local teams only use like two or three. And if you want to read some great books on sports television (albeit football), check out THE GAME BEHIND THE GAME: HIGH PRESSURE, HIGH STAKES IN TELEVISION SPORTS by Terry O’Neill and the seminal MONDAY NIGHT MAYHEM: THE INSIDE STORY OF ABC’S MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL by Bill Carter and Marc Gunther. They’re both awesome books. And I hate football, so that’s saying something.
