I know ABC has been using the three-man booth of John Davidson, Gary Thorne, and Bill Clement, but I hadn’t really seen it in action. They were working the All-Star Game, though, and gee whiz was it noisy. Hockey isn’t football. There’s not a lot of down time. There’s not a lot of space to fill. So hearing all three of them yammering over each other was a little bit distracting. Thorne’s play-by-play dominated, but with Davidson and Clement each doing color commentary, it was like dueling stories. ABC has got to go back to a two-man booth for their top game. Three men is just too many. Two is even too many. But I realize we have to keep the economy and employment figures moving.
