Keep Iginla

Calgary shouldn’t trade Jarome Iginla. Sure he’s expensive, but it’s because he’s worth it. He’s one of the NHL’s current greats. Just because it looks like last season’s 52 goals were a fluke, doesn’t mean he’s a bad player. There’s nothing wrong with averaging a little over 30 goals a season. That’s still pretty neat. And as Iginla gets used to the spotlight, he may eventually nudge that up to 40 goals a season. But the main thing is, Calgary loves him and they deserve a hero. What are they going to get with the money they save on Iginla? Three 10-goal scorers? And Calgary management has got to see Iginla is just about the only reason to watch a Flames game.
Having said that, I don’t understand why Calgary GM Craig Button won’t at least return Ranger coach/GM Glen Sater’s calls. Sather has got to be offering goalie Dan Blackburn and Calgary desperately, desperately, urgently, desperately needs a new goalie. Any new goalie. Even Roman Turek himself admits he’s awful. You would think Button would be a little bit interested in hearing about a warm body he could put in goal.
He shouldn’t take that warm body, but he should hear about it. That’s just good business.
