Maple Thugs Add Firepower

It’s not really shocking that Toronto got Owen Nolan from San Jose. The rumor was kicking around for weeks. What is shocking is that Toronto was able to successfully execute a trade. Although, to be honest, I think it really helped that no one else was really interested in Nolan. I mean, what did Toronto’s help wanted ad look like: “WANTED: Winger on the decline who’s hated by his teammates. Must have two first names.”
But Nolan does make the Leafs a better team. He’s a sniper, something the Leafs seem to always acquire, but never have. Toronto didn’t have to give up a lot to get him, and Nolan could be a difference-maker in the playoffs. Think about it. Tie Domi and Darcy Tucker can ambush some unsuspecting opposing star(s) (who may even be sitting on the bench), taking them out of the game, if not the series, if not hockey, and then Nolan can finish the job by scoring some goals.
