Los Angeles: Where Every Season Ticket Holder Can Coach

Los Angeles is crazy with the fan relations. I remember hearing that last season (or before the start of this season), the Kings invited all their season ticket-holders to listen to management talk about how this season was going to be better and different. Obviously it wasn’t better or different, but it was nice of the Kings to reach out to the fans like that, explaining their decisions face-to-face. In fact, it seems like a big chunk of running the Kings involves apologizing to season ticket-holders and explaining why they don’t seem to ever acquire any free agents. The Kings seem to value their fan base in a really kind of weird way.
And now they’re at it again.
This time, they’re opening their books to a season ticket-holder. Money manager Philip Propper wrote to the Kings, asking to see their books, since they’re always bitching about being broke. The Kings agreed (after some non-disclosure signing and ground rules). It’s believed to be the first time a professional sports team has opened its book to an outsider.
The Kings will do anything to sell a few more season tickets.
This is why hockey and California don’t mix.
