From Russia with Gloves (and Sticks and Pucks)
Whoa! Ottawa forward Brad Smyth turned down a two-way deal with the Senators to go play in Russia.
It seems like a money decision. Apparently the Russian clubs pay a lot.
But still. Playing in another country? That seems really…hard.
Granted, two-way deals suck since you can be sent down at any time. I’m pretty sure your salary goes down when you’re sent down, too.
But Russia? If your chances of playing in the NHL are slim in the AHL, they’re pretty much nonexistent in Russia.
Maybe he just likes really fresh caviar.
