Bruins: ‘Hey! Let’s Not Sign Anyone’

Wow. So the Bruins are really bucking the tradition of signing players after their arbitration hearings. First they blow off Dmitri Khristich in 1998, deciding he was too expensive, and now they’re expected to pass on defenseman Bryan Berard, who got a $2.51 million offer for next season.
Berard briefly left the NHL due to an eye injury. He came back two seasons ago with the Rangers. While he’s a strong and experienced defenseman, he does have limited visibility on the ice, and it does show in some of his decision-making. But then again, the Bruins don’t have a stable number one goalie and they’re defense corps have been leaving like rats off a rotting ship.
They are going to have someone play defense for them, right?
