Free Agents Continue to Be Free…Of Teams
Here are some columns on what I’m sure a lot of people have noticed: it’s a crappy time to be a free agent. Mike Heika weighs in for The Dallas Morning News (annoying registration required) and Michael Russo weighs in for the Sun-Sentinel.
It’s tough for the players but great for the teams. If I’m an NHL GM, I’m going to grab someone like Ken Klee or Adam Graves. Then, right before the trade deadline rolls around in March, I’m going to unload them to a contender willing to pay for those final tweaks to reach the Cup. So I’m unloading salary and picking up prospects or even developed talent that’s just not fitting in.
I should totally have my own team.
