Is there anyone who loves new Toronto GM John Ferguson Jr. more than me?
Maybe his mother. But that’s it.
The man is a genius. First he wisely passed on an over-the-hill Doug Gilmour. Then he turns around and signs Joe Nieuwendyk right out from under the Devils.
It’s so brilliant for so many reasons:

  • It adds grit to a team with very little, if any, defensive sense
  • It adds an amazing personality to a turbulent dressing room. He’s the consummate team player
  • It keeps Nieuwendyk away from the Devils. It’s addition by subtraction…from the Devils

I’m not ashamed to say it. I’m in love with John Ferguson. Once he’s able to unload coach Pat Quinn, the Leafs are going to thrive once again.
