Expensive Fleury Ready for the Big Show
Look at Pittsburgh! They’re going for it and trying to sign goalie Marc-Andre Fleury. Apparently everyone in the Penguin organization agrees he’s ready for the NHL. Well, not quite everybody. Goalie Sebastien Caron says he should be the number one goalie.
The Penguins have to sign Fleury by 3 PM Monday or he gets returned to his junior team, pretty much keeping him off the Penguin roster for the season.
The big concern is that Pittsburgh can’t afford to sign Fleury. There’s a way to make his contract more affordable, though the Penguins can take out an insurance policy against Fleury meeting what would probably be very costly performance-based bonuses.
It seems Columbus had some success with a similar insurance policy.
So now teams are sort of hoping their rookies fail, so they can save money. With these insurance policies, teams are basically starting to bet against their own players.
I don’t get sports sometimes.
