Book: ‘GMs Can Stand Some Schooling’

So NHL Players’ Association head Bob Goodenow was out on Long Island, busting on the Islanders for having to waive Jason Wiemer (who was claimed by the Wild) for salary reasons.
Goodenow asked why the Islanders were just now figuring out they can’t really afford Wiemer.
The answer may lie in the new book MONEY PLAYERS: HOW HOCKEY’S GREATEST STARS BEAT THE NHL AT ITS OWN GAME by Bruce Dowbiggin.
I haven’t gotten my copy yet, but The Hockey News has a nice summary of the book. Apparently the book talks about how agents are trained in law and finance, while most GMs are just ex-players. This allows the agents to take advantage of the GMs. And that’s how teams end up with players they can’t afford.
I can’t wait to read the book. But don’t be like me. The book wasn’t available on Amazon.com right away, so I ordered it from Amazon.ca. But now it’s on Amazon.com. So figure out which country you live in and order from that Amazon. You’ll thank me for this key tip.
