So we’ve come full circle in a way.
This summer, one of the stronger rumors had Detroit goalie Curtis Joseph going to the Bruins.
That talk sort of went away right around the time CuJo went in for not-secret-enough ankle surgery.
But now the rumors are back.
The Ottawa Sun is saying it could still happen.
Bruce Garrioch estimates the Bruins, should they be in strong playoff contention, could rent CuJo for $3 million.
And they really would be renting him. The Wings would take him back in September.
Of course, all bets could be off. The Wings actually recalled Joseph from the AHL so he could actually play some NHL hockey. Usual goalies Dominik Hasek and Manny Legace are both injured.
So while I’m sure the Wings really do want to deal Joseph, he’s been pretty handy as a fill-in for the oft-injured Hasek. Maybe they just want to eat the $3 million and go with three goalies. Maybe it’s not really goalie overkill. Maybe it’s just right.
