College Hockey: ‘Two For Boarding on the Left with Less Than 10 Minutes in the Second’

College hockey, which I don’t really follow, is coming up with some new rules.
The National Collegiate Athletic Association has a new rule explicitly banning head and neck contact.
I don’t think hockey as a whole needs more rules. Players aren’t supposed to go for the head in general. Even in the NHL. If a player does, refs can call roughing. But to create all these rules that will be applied subjectively just makes players and coaches hate the refs even more. Hockey works best when there aren’t a lot of calls. If you give a referee a rule, he’s going to want to call it. All this new rule does is slow the flow of the game and give coaches something else to argue over. The players sure aren’t any safer.
