A Hatful of Hat Tricks for Buffalo
Happy New Year!
New Year’s Eve is a good day for the Buffalo Sabres.
Back in 1992, Sabres Alexander Mogilny and Yuri Khmylev both scored hat tricks against the Rangers.
Eleven years later, Miroslav Satan and Maxim Afinogenov repeated the feat, this time against the perpetually reeling Washington Capitals.
Buffalo wound up beating the Caps 7-1.
Satan has been playing a lot better since earlier in the season, when he couldn’t buy a goal. But you have to wonder if Buffalo has irreparably soured on Satan. He held out for more money earlier in the season. He got the money and then didn’t produce. It seems they could probably get a nice return on his trade. Like maybe a goalie, which Buffalo so desperately needs.
If Satan’s slump proved one thing, it’s that Buffalo can survive without him.
