Joseph Staying?
It’s not really huge news, but the Detroit News reports the Wings are leaning toward maybe hanging on to spare goalie Curtis Joseph.
He’s playing well and he’s healthy. Other goalie Dom Hasek hasn’t played since Dec. 8.
Wings GM Ken Holland says there’s a lot of league interest in Joseph, though. That’s a little shocking. While most of this year’s contract is already paid out, he’s got one more year to go. And I’m assuming he’ll get that second $8 million whether or not the NHL is in session next season.
Having a Hasek backup makes sense. Spending $8 million on an insurance policy is a bit steep, though. If Holland is smart, he’ll trade away Joseph and grab a good second-tier goalie. Maybe even Rick DiPietro from the Isles or one of Phoenix’s many, many fine goalies.
Oh. And the Bruins shut down Detroit 3-0 last night.
