So the Flyers traded Justin Williams for Carolina’s Danny Markov, in their quest to actually have defensemen.
And while I kind of doubt Flyer GM Bobby Clarke’s assertion that Markov is a top four defenseman, Markov is a warm body, and that’s almost as good. Especially considering the Flyers lost yet another defenseman in their 4-1 loss to the Canadiens.
This time, it was Jim Vandermeer and a separated shoulder.
All of these lost defensemen are good for the Flyers in a way. It takes the heat off of coach Ken Hitchcock and the under-performing Philadelphia forwards.
Of course, when the forwards finally embrace Hitchcock’s teachings again, they’re going to be mighty pissed to realize they have no defensemen behind them.
