I’m not sure how, but I managed to miss all of Colorado’s recent wheeling and dealing.
They picked up defenseman Bob Boughner from Carolina and traded Martin Skoula for Anaheim’s Kurt Sauer.
The usually unstoppable Colorado defensemen Rob Blake and Adam Foote are both injured, but expected back soon.
Adrian Dater from the Denver Post says Colorado isn’t done dealing. He predicts defenseman Derek Morris might be moved once the rest of the blue line is healthy. He also guesses the Avs are going to grab an insurance policy, er backup, for goalie David Aebischer.
Avs GM Pierre Lacroix has always been about picking up extraordinary defensemen, from guys like Darius Kasparaitis, to Ray Borque. The organization got away from that concept a little bit over the summer, when they picked up some of the league’s best forwards for a song. But now that it’s crunch time, the rest of the NHL has got to be a little pissed the Avs are toughening up.
