Red Wings coach Dave Lewis, about to re-sign on as coach, sounds like he’s getting ready to make the team his own.
Lewis has been coaching a team very much built for Scotty Bowman, the team’s old coach. Management never gave Lewis the chance to succeed on his own terms.
But maybe the people upstairs are realizing that Lewis needs his own team.
A scrappy, mean team.
Most coaches would kill for the talent Lewis had on his bench this season. But the thing is, while talent is helpful, you need role players willing to get nasty in the corners and along the boards. The Wings only had the Grind Line, and even they seemed to be getting a little too Hollywood to be horribly effective.
So keep an eye on the Wings whenever the season re-starts. They’ll probably have a different look.
