Phoenix Dreams; Dallas Does

Wow. It seems Brett Hull is going back to the Stars. It looks like Phoenix is out of the Hull race.
I know I’m stupid and picked Phoenix as a potential sleeper team last year, but with that in mind, I was really digging their offseason moves this year. Hull would have been a great feather in their helmet.
So far this off-season, the Coyotes have added offensive defenseman Sean O’Donnell, gritty forward Sheldon Keefe, and character guy Mike Ricci, last seen leading by example in San Jose. Throw in existing goalie Brian Boucher and new goalie coach Grant Fuhr, plus a Mike Comrie who plays the whole season, and you’ve got a pretty decent nucleus. Hull could have really put them over the top. Especially when you consider that his slightly off season last season in Detroit was probably about 80% nerves over moving into third place on the NHL’s all-time goal scoring list. Without that monkey on his back (even as he tries to pass Gordie Howe for the two-spot), he could have given Phoenix a sure 30 to 40 goals. Now those goals will probably go to Dallas.
But even without Hull, I’m still keeping an eye on Phoenix again. Laugh if you want. But if hockey ever starts up again, they’re already in a pretty strong position.
