Coyote Hull
So this is kind of old news, but Brett Hull took a two-year deal from the Coyotes.
So why didn’t he go with the Dallas Stars, who also offered him a deal?
The Coyotes gave Hull an extra year.
They also gave him the hard sell. They even pulled out the big guns Managing Partner Wayne Gretzky called Hull to urge him to join the Coyotes. And apparently it worked.
Now Phoenix has the fun job of trying to figure out who to play Hull with. Not that the Coyotes are so deep. But they’re finally starting to have options. And it seems like a cool option would be to pair Hull with Mike Comrie.
Of course, not everyone is loving this move. Ted Kulfan at the Detroit News reminds us that some say Hull has lost a few steps on the ice and he can sometimes be tough to deal with when he’s slumping.
But Hull still has way more upside than downside. Phoenix was smart to press for him. Even if he’s just good for 20 goals, his value as a teacher will more than pay his salary.
