I already mentioned that Calgary goalie Miikka Kiprusoff got a huge raise in arbitration.
I must have missed that the Flames tried to destroy him in the process. The Calgary Sun reported that the Flames tried to establish Kiprusoff as a goalie who wasn’t good enough to keep his backup job in San Jose. Of course, that strategy didn’t work too well since the arbitrators probably realized the Flames rode Kiprusoff to the Stanley Cup Finals.
The Sun says Kiprusoff has calmed down a bit, now that the money is in his pocket. But the whole experience will have to be in the back of his head for the rest of his time in Calgary.
Next step for the Flames? Sign Jarome Iginla. Iginla probably opted out of arbitration just so he wouldn’t have to hear his coach/GM degrade his play.
