Richard Sandomir at the New York Times has an interesting piece on ESPN hockey commentator Bill Clement’s role in the Olympics, calling badminton. How did he go from hockey to badminton? He was a regional badminton champ back in high school. And who didn’t dream of calling Olympic badminton in high school?
Oh. And Sandomir says Doc Emrick, who does play-by-play for the Devils and some ESPN work, too, is calling water polo.
Truthfully, I’m going to have to trust Sandomir on all this. I haven’t watched much of the Olympics. I keep hoping some of the Olympians will drop the gloves and fight, but they never do. I want to blame it on their not wearing gloves, but there might be some other issues at work.
