Coach Power!
The power dynamic of sports has always see-sawed.
Back in the day, coaches and GMs controlled everything. The players had no power or leverage.
Then, ever so slowly, the power shifted to the players, to the point where coaching, in many cases, became glorified babysitting.
But now, management is back in the driver’s seat.
First, Terrell Owens is basically fired by the Eagles. Then he apologizes.
And now all the coaches are flush with the power.
Islander coach Steve Stirling kicked defenseman Janne Niinimaa off the ice during practice Monday (it must have worked Niinimaa finished last night’s win over the Devils +3).
Is the era of the player over? Will coaches again dominate?
Probably not. But it’s still a good week for coaches.
