Remember last week?
A rumor (or rumour, since it was from Canada) went around that Tampa had placed captain Dave Andreychuk on waivers.
GM Jay Feaster seemed upset: “He was not [placed on waivers]…I can clearly tell you that,” he told reporters in Buffalo.
Yesterday, Andreychuk was placed on waivers.
Tampa felt Andreychuk was too slow for the new NHL. He’ll be paid and next season’s salary will count against the cap.
A pretty cruddy ending to a great NHL career.
I know Tampa is trying to do right by him, but did they really need to shop him? Did they think anyone would want him?
It would have been nice if the last few weeks of Andreychuk’s career weren’t filled with questions about if he was about to be waived.
