Bertuzzi Debut So-So; Osgood Contemplates Nickel Package

Todd Bertuzzi made his debut with new linemate Jarome Iginla. I was really excited about this combination because I love huge finesse guys. Not that Bertuzzi has so much finesse anymore. But he once did and I like to think he can eventually access it once again. Especially now that he’s back in western Canada.
Anyway, the debut? Nothing horribly impressive, although, obviously, it’s still super early.
It cracks me up how a week ago no one wanted Anaheim defenseman Mathieu Schneider, and now, suddenly the Thrashers, Blues, and Penguins are in the mix. According to Kevin Allen, teams are asking for rookie Duck Bobby Ryan to be a part of the deal. Considering the Ducks need to clear salary cap space more than anything, so they can sign Teemu Selanne, it seems like they might not have a choice with Ryan. But as more defensemen go down in the pre-season, the Ducks get to be more selective.
Detroit Red Wing goalie Chris Osgood says he’s interested in becoming the GM of the Detroit Lions, now that Lion GM Matt Millen is fired. It sounds crazy but consider that Osgood’s backup on the Isles was current Isle GM Garth Snow. That’s got to count for some kind of management experience. I think he deserves an interview.
