Lots of Teams Floundering

Wow. What’s with the Flyers?
They blew a lead to the Sharks Saturday night, leaving them winless in their first five games.
I haven’t watched a ton of the Flyers yet this season, but it’s hard not to notice how thin their defense is. Coach John Stevens has messed with his defensive pairings, but it really hasn’t helped. Another problem? Only four players on the team have more than a goal. In fact, only six players have points. That’s let opposing teams focus on the Simon Gagne-Danny Briere-Mike Richards line and then run the Flyers defense the rest of the night.
The thing is, I’m not sure what Stevens can do without the defensive pieces.
At least Philadelphia has the Phillies.
Meanwhile, out in Anaheim, they’re not getting much out of their top two lines. Still, they managed to get their first win of the season.
Over in Tampa, top draft pick Steven Stamkos has yet to put up a point in the NHL. Over on his blog, he’s still talking about moving, which makes me think the Lightning should have helped him find a place before the season started. It seems to be weighing heavily on his mind.
Finally, if you thought the only thing awesome about NHL referee Kerry Fraser was his hair, you are sadly mistaken. Scroll down to the bottom of this Globe article for an great story about Fraser handling a rowdy fan.
