Turco Can’t Do It Alone. And Really, a Backup Probably Won’t Help Much Either

Ouch. Rough night for Dallas in Detroit last night.

It was surprising in that the Stars were hot going into that game. It was unsurprising in that they’ve given up five goals or more 13 times this season.

Interestingly, Stars coach Dave Tippett has been leaning on goalie Marty Turco pretty hard this season, with Turco on on pace to start 76 games.

Can you imagine what those numbers would be like if Turco was having a decent season? It really speaks to Dallas’ backup goalie situation more than anything else (or at least Tippett’s assessment of the situation). Mike Heika has some possible backups the Stars might consider obtaining.

I recommend the Stars take an especially hard look at Manny Legace, who’s having a tough year, playing-wise and injury-wise, but who might actually be able to challenge the often-awful Turco for starts, if Tippett would allow that.
