Pizza Avalanche!

ESPN.com has an interesting piece on how San Jose GM Doug Wilson is really good to the reporters that cover his team.
How good? The two Shark beat writers are invited to a pizza party in Wilson's office before every home game.
Wilson seems to be one part nice guy and one part superstitious guy. But what bad can ever come from a pizza party?
Speaking of the Sharks, with the Avs struggling against them, the Colorado media is blaming the only party they can: the refs.
The officiating has been a little goaltender interference happy, but not impossibly so. The big issue seems to be that the Avs won't dump-and-chase the puck. San Jose always seems to have three forwards back at the blue line. Colorado needs to just shoot it over them.

Lecavalier Thriving

Tampa's up two games to none over the Canadiens. They beat them 3-1 yesterday.
Vinny Lecavalier, who looked pretty useless against the Islanders in the first round, is on fire against Montreal. He's got four goals in two games.
At this point it's kind of a given that goalie Nikolai Khabibulin is going to play really well. But Lecavalier? That's a nice surprise.
Earlier, he was saying that points don't really mean anything.
I wonder if he still feels that way.

Bowman Back?

It's almost a Sunday tradition.
A crazy-ass rumor from Larry Brooks at the New York Post.
This one is interesting: Brooks says Scotty Bowman will be the next coach of the Ottawa Senators. And his goalie? Dominik Hasek.
It sounds both crazy and implausible to me, but what do I know?

Shorter Season, Wilder Animals

So the NHL is thinking about moving to a 72 game schedule.
They'd cut it down by cutting out any interconference games.
The interconference games don't really bother me. It's nice to see a wide variety of teams pass through town. But a shorter schedule would be nice. The season is just too long. The players are too worn down after 82 games. The 10 games off would probably make for more energetic playoffs.
Also, I'd like to see live animals periodically released during the game. I can't help but think it would improve the flow of the game.
