A Night at the Garden

So I was at Tuesday's Tampa-Rangers game at the Garden. It was pretty brutal, what with Rangers coach Tom Renney deciding to spotlight his fourth line all night.
I'm always amazed at how dedicated Ranger fans are. I was one of like 10 people not wearing a Rangers jersey. Even the women wear them. It's kind of crazy. It's almost like a cult meeting.
Also, Tuesday, Newsday had a nice, juicy look at Mike Comrie's rocky final months in Edmonton, from his holdout to rumors of an affair.
It's like the E! TRUE HOLLYWOOD STORY meets SLAP SHOT.

60 Games in Detroit

I want to be an NHL coach because you often get to be way crazy.
Take Red Wings coach Mike Babcock. He just announced he's going to rotate goalies Chris Osgood and Dom Hasek every other game until the 60th game of the season. What happens at game 60? Does Babcock just give one of them every game for the rest of the season? And why game 60 and not game 65? Is it some kind of speed limit thing?
Also, Wings defenseman Andreas Lilja has a funny bet with Henrik Zetterberg: Zetterberg needs to hit 50 goals before Lilja hits 15 points. No word on what the stakes are. Or the time frame for the bet. It could be 60 games.

Flyers Continue to Rampage: Who Will Stop Them?

I know I joke about the Flyers being a crazed street gang, but it's kind of not a joke. I know the NHL says says there's no proof Flyers defenseman Derian Hatcher bit Travis Zajac's finger, but I know who I believe. In fact, if you told me Hatcher bit the finger of Zajac's mom, I don't think you'd even get a 'no way' out of me. I'm actually more shocked when I catch a Flyers score and there's not some sort of attack mentioned. I'm like: 'Wow. They must have just finished a back-to-back.'
Also, the Boston Globe had a nice, short little piece on the rise and fall of Sergei Samsonov, now, and perhaps for the rest of his NHL career, playing for the AHL Rockford Icehogs. Although, according to the Icehogs site, they offer a $5 pork sandwich/beer combo. I don't know if the players can take advantage of that, but that's a great deal.
Also, my latest fantasy column is up: the Avs are injured.
